Family Events Glow at Smithfield

A Winter GLOW Returns To Smithfield! A free family event based around seasonal themes of winter and light, with a warm and intimate programme of family performances, comedy, music and workshops in Smithfield Square.

Glow Tent (2pm – 5pm)
A beautifully lit long barn tent on Smithfield Plaza will host an eclectic mix of music, storytelling, comedy, workshops and interactive fun.
2pm – 3pm: Freddy Buttons: Book reading, food facts, a photo both & fun family activities with author & food writer Fiona Dillon.
3pm – 4pm: Owl Bat Bat Owl: Storytelling with award winning author & illustrator Marie Louise Fitzgerald.
4pm -5pm: Family comedy and fun with the Danger Really is Everywhere Show, with writer and comedian David O’Doherty and illustrator Chris Judge, creators of the Danger is Everywhere book series. (SOLDOUT)

Brown Bag Films, Unit C, Smithfield Square (2pm – 5pm)
Glow workshops: An afternoon of free workshops and interactive family activities including workshops for children to create glow-in- the-dark monsters at Brown Bag Films Studio.
With artists from Brown Bag Films, including double Emmy Award winning storyboard artist Mårten Jönmark and The Ravenous Beast and Henry Hugglemonster creator Niamh Sharkey.
2pm: Story Doodle with Mårten Jönmark
3.30pm: T-shirt painting and Glow Doodle with Niamh Sharkey

Smithfield Square, Paper Lantern Installation (2pm – 5pm)
A magical LED paper lantern, light installation created by artist Maeve Clancy with children from D7 Educate Together NS. Featuring paper lanterns made by the children with Maeve Clancy. The lanterns will be lit with LED lights and strung on Smithfield Plaza.
2pm & 3pm: Maeve Clancy will facilitate lantern making workshops for children at Glow.

Smithfield Square (2pm – 5pm)
Outdoor Performances: Pop-up family performances on Smithfield Plaza featuring acrobatics, juggling and hula hooping.
Including shows by Cormac Mohally (one half of renowned Cork comedy duo The Lord’s of Strut) who will perform his solo show Just a Guy outdoors on Smithfield Plaza at 2.30pm & 4.30pm (approx. times).

Light House Cinema (2pm)
A screening of A Muppets Christmas Carol as part of Naughty or Nice Christmas family season will take place at 2pm. Tickets cost €6.50 concession, and €8.50 for adults.
