Mountains To Sea Book FestivalMy kids are just starting to get really into books and its something that I want to nurture and encourage. Festivals like Mountains to Sea in Dun Laoghaire are an amazing opportunity to share extra special book moments with your family. This year they have a number of lovely events for families. We’re just mentioning a few so make sure that you check out their website.

The Great Big Family Book Show
Readings, music and poetry, there’s something for every book worm, big or small. 

Listen to award-winning writers, Marita Conlon-McKenna, Philip Ardagh and Judi Curtin talk to presenter of the show and debut writer, Diana Bunici about their favourite childhood books.

The acclaimed spoken word poet, Stephen James Smith will perform his favourite Dahl poem accompanied by musician, Enda Reilly and The Supertones Choir will sing music inspired by best loved books, from The Jungle Book to Matilda.

David Rawle (Moone Boy) will read from his favourite children’s novels and Ryan Tubridy and Irish Children’s Laureate, Eoin Colfer, will entertain with their own special story memories.

Oh No George! Guided Multi-Sensory Workshop
It’s hard work being good all the time. And it’s especially hard for a curious dog like George!
These short, individual workshops are designed for children with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) and their families, where they can enjoy a calm and quiet atmosphere exploring the world of George from Chris Haughton’s brilliant picture book, Oh No George!

Children will then meet Duncan, a real live assistance dog trained by My Canine Companion (if they would like to), and explore (fake) soil and rubbish, and taste chocolate cake, just like George.

Dave Pigeon Art and Story Fun
Who would win in a fight: Mean Cat or Dave Pigeon?

It’s time for young readers to meet a true hero – Dave Pigeon. Join author Swapna Haddow and illustrator Sheena Dempsey for a hilarious event including warring pigeons, readings and live drawings as our heroes take on the furry menace known as Mean Cat.
Be warned – feathers will fly!

Making Up Monsters Workshop
Build your own magical or scary character, design their world and give them some supernatural powers!
